Studio Visit: Ry Rocklen

Ry Rocklen Studio

January 12, 2016

Ry Rocklen is a contemporary artist working primarily in sculpture. Known for his conceptual practice which imbues found objects with theatricality and absurdity, Rocklen’s work harkens to Marcel Duchamp’s sculptural Readymades. From copper-plated found sneakers to living room furniture made entirely of trophies from a thrift shop, Rocklen amplifies mundane objects with ornamental formalism and a wry sense of humor. NeueHouse members took a private visit of Rocklen’s studio where the artist discussed his process-based studio practice, the Los Angeles art scene, and his current exhibition, My Metropolitan, which opened January 9th at Feuer/Mesler in New York.
