In Conversation: Thomas Struth & Martin Kollar

February 15, 2016

This Place–a travelling photo exhibition of over 600 images by twelve internationally acclaimed artists who were invited to explore the complexity of Israel and the West Bank, as place and metaphor-opened in February 2016 at the Brooklyn Museum. To discuss the intricate and fragmented portrait, alive to all the rifts and paradoxes of this important and much contested place, critic and art historian Jason Farago was in conversation with two of the artists who were in town for the occasion: internationally award-winning photographers Thomas Struth (Berlin, NY) and Martin Kollar (Slovak Republic). Together, they discussed the process and engaged the audience in a conversation going beyond the polarizing narratives and familiar images of the region found in mainstream media.
