In Conversation: Daniel Guzmán & Jim Shaw

Hollywood

March 24, 2016

Combing historic texts, artworks, comic books, and his dreams, Los Angeles artist Jim Shaw’s imagery is an essential tool in conveying his imagined histories and fables. Shaw’s capacity to produce a body of work that reveres the human condition, in all its extremes, remains unmatched. Daniel Guzmán’s drawings, installations, and collaborative works draw from a mix of personal interests including comic books, punk rock, heavy metal, and Mexican pop culture. Fusing diverse cultural influences, Guzmán creates imagery that is semi-autobiographical, satirical, and at times deeply reflective of the ironies that mold social conditions that people live and experience.

NeueHouse Hollywood and The Mistake Room hosted an intimate conversation between Daniel Guzman and Jim Shaw, where they discussed drawing as a life-long practice. This program was produced in collaboration with The Mistake Room’s Salon Series.
