Conversation: Afromodernism & Fashion

Madison Square

February 02, 2017

African themes, motifs, and techniques are playing a more significant role across the Western fashion landscape. Designers, stylists, and brands are acknowledging the rich culture and artistry embedded across the continent, and providing a modern perspective on the African experience. This conversation between American Vogue’s Marjon Carlos and costume designer & stylist Mobolaji Dawodu highlighted the evolution of the industry’s embrace of the African aesthetic and questioned the authenticity and legacy of the movement. Presented in collaboration with African fashion e-tailer OXOSI.
