Studio Tour: Mira Dancy

Members joined us for a studio visit with the powerful, expressive painter Mira Dancy. The artist, who works primarily on canvas but also at times on wall painting, neon light pieces, projected images, and even shower curtains, walked us through her feminist ethos and process. NYTimes’ critic Roberta Smith wrote in 2015 that her work was “preceded in different ways by Dana Schutz, Katherine Bernhardt and Ella Kruglyanskaya”. Dancy often works on large-scale, filling her canvases with expansive nudes rendered in a vibrant array of colors and with calligraphic, sweeping, sinuous lines.
